was not, but i don't regret finishing it. I liked the first as a standalone when i was the age of the characters, and i only finished bc i thought it would be as good. I felt cheated when he ended the book with 'they have to earn his forgiveness' or something like that. i wish it could have been really intense, but instead they show up at the end and connor embraces them, if only to save them from an angry mob.

i waited the whole series for a really dramatic, drawn out emotional conversation or SOMETHING relating to a child who was pretty much aborted, but got the chance to talk to his parents after surviving. I was upset that Connor was abducted right before FINALLY getting to see his parents. the world building was decent, though not great. i also never liked lev, minus his stint as a clapper. There was no real resolve with Risa, which was commented on as the long lasting effects of unwinding in society. If the notion of cam was never present in the series, then it would have been okay.Ĭam's ending left me feeling empty. The harvest camp that was the plane was nuts! It was predictable though, because when connor was getting unwound, i knew that he was going to be rewound like Cam. The last one was good, almost as good as the first. the third one was dumb IMO and pretty slow because the whole thing was on the indian rez, and they got to their destination at the end but it was all for character development, i suppose? Honestly, i don't remember much about the second book. I only came back to the series because i don't like to leave a series undone.

Some things were spelled out and really blatant, but i could get over that. Shusterman's writing is good, though i must admit, when i was reading them now, I could tell it was written for a younger audience. Everything in UnWind was more legit IMO than in the rest of the series because it raised interesting questions and it was a nice read. I didn't like Roland here, but later on in the series i missed him as the first antagonist. I loved the fact that they were on the run and and i loved how lev turned into a clapper aka suicide bomber.Īt the harvest camp it was intense, and you really didn't know what would happen with the Chop Shop and everything. I thought the first one was great as a standalone and because of that fact, you really did not know where the story was headed. Now, i have just finished, at once, the third and fourth books, UnSouled and UnDivided, respectively. Fast forward to Winter 2013 and I reread the first and then went on to the second one, UnWholly. I was in high school at the time, and so I related to the story more.
